Awahuri School Committee

A special meeting- of the Awahuri School was held last Saturday evening. Present — Messrs Weightinaa* Wtxrsfolcl, Campbell, and Bennett. The teacher, Mr Gooke, was also-pre-sent. The following correspondence was read ; — From the Education Board, fixing* the time of the holidays, .'and from Mr L. Stuart, junr., applying for permission to use the well on the school premises, and offering to share in keeping it in repair. It was decided not to alter the date of the school treat, although the holidays were to begin a week earlier than, was expected. The date, as originally fixed, being Friday, 17th December, occurs during the holidays* but finding it would cause no inconvenience to the teacher to hold the treat then, that date was adhered to. The question of prizes was next discussed. The Chairman reported that besides the four special attendance* prizes, fifteen pupils would ba entitled to prizes for passing the standards, and about the same number for having made 250 attendances I during the year, according to a resolution passed previously. The teaoher. was asked, and consented, to furnish some' of the pupils with subscription i lists, inviting contributions , from neighbors towards the treat and prize fund. The question of selecting the prizes was left till next meeting. It was resolved, in reply tp Mr L» Stewart's request that the Committee deoline to grant the use of the welLSome members in discussing this ex-^ pressed the opinion it would be better for Mr Stewart to apply to his land* lord. The Chairman undertook to convene a meeting of the ladies of the district to arrange for the school treat. It was agreed to hold the ordinary meeting of the Committee on the Hth instant, and the proceedings then terminated.
