The air is fall of rumors regarding the -practical failure of a Wellington merchant ■who was also secretary to various financial and insurance bodies. It is said bis defalcations and debts amount to nearly £18,000, but he has not filed, and, no prosecution has yet been initiated, although the facts have been whispered for weeks. Meanwhile paper with the party's name on, is being dishonored on all sides, and Ids bankers are issuing wrjts all ronnd.
