Education Board
Ordinary monthly meeting — Tuesday, November 30. Present — Messrs Watt (in the chair), Sanson, Bridge Bate> Stevens, Baker, Fry, and Key. Mr Ross. Appointments Committee: — Upper Taonui — Mr Slipper wrote respecting his removal. No vacancy ; and the Board expected better results before promotion. — Ashurst — The committee applied for the removal of the master The JBoard decided that the exaniin- ' ations showed that the teacher had not neglected his work. Building Grant.— The secretary of the Edueation Department, in acknow- ■.. lodging tlie receipt of a resolution respecting this grant, stated that Sir Robert Stent objected to any moneybeing spent out of loau on the painting of schools, though he did not objeot to additions coming out of the I Public works estimate. The Nelson i Board in their reply to the Depart- ! ment alluded to a circular issued by the previous 'secretary^ and saujt that while there were so many contradictory directions tha Board would as heretofore spend -Jk money from their building grant on painting, &o. Several other Boards had replied, all agree with the Wanganui Board's circular. < Alteration of Meeting.— Mjr Bridge moved that m future the meetings be < be held at 7.30 p.m. on the last Monday of the month. Mr Bridge explained that the new railway time table would interfere with the arrival of the members in time te transact business. The resolution was carried after a short discussion. It was also decided that the next meeting should be held on the 20th December, the Board's offices being closed for a-fort-night. Holidays. — It was resolved on the motion of Mr Bridge that tbe schools should be closed from the 10th December to the 19th January. The Board then adjourned till 2 o'cloeki ; , '*';"'•
