The statement that extraordinary military preparations are being made relative to the socialistic meeting which will be held in Trafalgar Square to morrow (Sunday) is anthontitavelyldenied. The Statement published by die Times as^to the site, area, and cost of the Imperial Institute is without foundation. TheTimss to-day publishes a report to the effect that Sir E. Hamilton, Fn> der-Secretary for Ireland, will shortly be moved from Dublin Castle, owing te his Nationalist tendencies. It is announced that Sir B. Hamilton, late Under-Secretary for Ireland, has been appointed to succeed Sir S. Stracha* as Governor of Tasmania. Mr Balfour, Secretary of State for Scotland, has been appointed a member of the Cabinet. Acting under the advice of Mr Dillon, M,P., for East Mayo, five hundred tenants on Lord Clanricarde's estate, Galway, have refused to pay their rents. Lord Salisbury has written a letter stating that he is unable to meet the proposed deputation of unemployed from the Socialists. November 21. The Socialistic demonstration, as pre« viomsly arranged, took place in TrafaU gar Square this afternoon, fully fitty thonsand persons were present, and the usual Socialist resolutions were passed. The proceedings passed off without disturbance.
