The regulations for the establishment of Village Homestead Special Settlement Associations appear in to- night's Gazette, Each association must contain not less than twelve members, and they mar arrange with the Government for a block of land upon depositing 10s on behalf of each member. On approval of the block the Government will carry out the survey. The land selected shall be held on perpetual lease for the first term of 30 years, and for a subsequent term without the right of acquiring the freehold. The rental is to be based on the capital value of the land, but not less than at £1 per acre, and no lease will be issued until the first half year's rent is paid. No allotment is to be more than 50 acres, and married men will have preference. Each member of the association will be required to occupy his section, and to make permanent improvements, which were defined in the regulations.
