The Volunteer Ball
The anniversary ball of the Manchester Rifles was held in the Public Hall last night. The attendance was very 'good, about fifty couples being prosont, besides a number of ladies and gentlemen who did not dance. The music was excellent, Herr Norber# heing the presiding genius. Mr Summers was caterer, and full justice vns done by the guests to the supper and refreshments, all of which were provided on a most liberal scale. Mr „ Fred Eoe was a most courteous and efficient Master of Ceremonies. # The Committee deserve special credit for the complete manner in which the arrangements were carried out. The Hall was tastefully decorated with trophies of arms and flags of all nations. Dancingcemmencedat about 9 o'clock, and was continued -with, spirit until about five o'clock this morning. The gathering was a representative one, settlers and their families from Haleombe, Kiwitea, and Taonui being there. One of the Alexandra Cavalry and a member of the Cape Mounted Eiflea were also present. Altogether, the corps is to be congratulated on the Buceess of the ball. There was not a single hitch or contretemps to mar the proceedings.
