Education Board
The usual monthly meeting of th . Education Board was held on Tuesdaj Present— Messrs Watt (Chairman; Pry, Sanson, Bridge, Eoss, Bakei Carson, and Stevens. North Canterbury Board. — M Carson moved, That the secretar write to the North Canterbury Edu cation Board expressing the surpris of this board at them inducing i teacher to stay there after his having accepted an appointment under thi board. Seconded by Mr Fry, am carried. The secretary was instructei to keep a record of those who aecep appointments and then decline them Mr Bate moved as an amendment That the words "having induced hin to stay" be omitted from the motion Seconded by Mr Sanson. The amend ment was put and lost, and the motioi carried. The TJncertificated Teachers.— R< the letter from the Central Department on the subject of uncertificated teachers.— Mr Bridge moved, and Mi Carson seconded, That the inspector be requested to report whether it is desirable to dispense with the services of any such teacher. The motion was put and carried. Onrna Bridge — Mr Fry moved and Mr Bate seconded, That the architect be instructed to prepare plans and call for tenders for the erection of a school at Oroua Bridge. — Carried. Kairanga. — A numher of householders applied for a school in the Kairanga district, as there are 27 children of school age in the district, mnd a number more verging on the age, and the nearest school is three miles distant. Resolved that Mr Fry visit the district, . and report at the next meeting. Marton.— The Marton School Committee wiote asking for blinds and cupboard in ene room, and also that the roof of the sehooluiaster's residence be repaired. (A letter from the schoolmaster was returned to be sent through the couimittee.) Resolved, that the architect visit the schoolmasters residence, and report at the next meeting of the board. It was also resolved to supply the blinds and cupboard. Halcombo.— The Haloombe committee wrote asking for various requisites, and stating that two window Rushes in the residence wer© rotten, and the gate to tl;« residence was also rottwi.— Resolved to reply, That the committee should supply the articles mentioned. ; Feilding. — Application for illustrations of tame animals. — Refused. Wallaee'B History. — Al letttr received from a Mr Wallace re his history of New Zealand. — Resolved, That that the board cannot purchase the books as requested. In Committee. — The board then went into committee to open tenders and consider the architect's report. On the board resuming, it was reported that it had been agreed to call for tenders for additions to the Sanson Halcombe, and Waitotara schools. For the additions to the master's residence at Patea four; tenders were received, that of J. Borgie, at £65, being accepted. For similar additions at Waverley, one tender, John McFarlane and Son, £94, was received and accepted. The report "was adopted, and the board adjourned. — Chronicle.
