In the year 1869 New Zealand spent £2,541.507 on strong drink, or £10 101 per head of the population. la ISBS the expenditure on intnxicauts was £2.2X9,51, or only £3 16s per head. This shows thai the depression is being felt more heavily at the present time than it wns eighteen years ago, also that the peoplo are getting more sensible.
