Henry Hall, better known as Harry Hall, agad 45, who has been employed for years aa ticket-taker at the Opera House and Theatre Royal, attempted to commit suicide to-night at his lodgings by firing a pistol into his mouth. He was found lying on the floor, bleeding profusely. He used an old theatrical property pistol with a large charge of powder out no ball. The discharged smashed his face and shattered his jaw. He still lives in great agony, but the doctor states that thu injuries are mortal. Hall is still conscious, aud has made his will, lie uiaile a statement as to the cause for the a«-t, but this document is resnrved awaiting events. It has transspired that he was in the habit of lioofc-niaking on races. Ho had recently lost some wagers, and his mind soeinod to be affected. He complained within the last few days that "they set traps for him," and that "they were all in it." There is no doubt that this betting delusion was the immt-diate cause of the rash act, but in his written statement he made this accusation, mentioning two names which have not yet transpired. Three jneu were with him a short time previously to the rash act, one of them to pay a small bet.
