Manchester Road Board

The usual monthly meeting was held at the Board's office, Feilding, on Saturday last. Present — Messrs Lethbridge (chairman), Macarthur, Pleasauts, Whibley, and Pryce- Jonas. The minutes of. the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read : — From "W. Masters, re state of the rQad from Bunny thorpe to his house. From John Phillips and nine other ratepayers, calling on the Board to have the fences removed on No. 6 Line between Makino and Kimbolton I roads. Telegram from the Under-Secretary . for Public Works, advising £800 to credit of the Board's account for the Gorge Bridge contract. Letter from the same, stating that out of £666 paid to credit of the Board on the 2nd instant, the Treasury had stopped payment of the £000 applied for, owing, it is understood, to the non-payment by the Board of certain debentures due to the Government. From F. Flavall, Carl Wichnowsty, and Rudolph. Noffke, re transfer of certain sections. Petition from Gardner Bros., R. Hart, and seven other owners of sections in Ashurst, asking the Board to check the overflow of water on their lands. Petition' from the settlers in No. 6 Ward in the immediate vicinity and adjacent to the Ashurst and Bunnythorpe road, asking the same to be metalled for a distance of about fifty chains. Proposed by Mr Macarthur, seconded by Mr Pleasants, That Mr Bell, Mr Phillips, or any other of the peti-, turners, be requested to attend the next meeting of the Board, re gate on No. 6 Line. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Whibley, seconded by Mr Pryce- Jones, That the Engineer be instructed to- have the water running from Pohangina road turned from the sections mentioned in a petition to the Board on September 4, providing the cost does not exceed. £10, in which case the Engineer. will report to the Board. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Whibley, seconded by Mr Macarthur, That the metalling asked for on the part of Ashurst and Bunny thorpe road, be granted as soon as the Board is in a position to do it—Carried. Proposed by Mr Macarthur, seconded by Mr Lethbrige, That the ratebook be altered as requested by Flavall, Wihnowsky and NofEke with respect to part of sections .Nu. 76 and 76 A., and from A. P. Douglas to Pryce- Jones with respect to 13 B. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Macarthur, secoried by Mr Pleasauts, That Browyne be allowed 10s per week during the Board's pleasure, and l')s extra for the first week to buy cooking utensils. Accounts to the extent of £535 Is were passed for payment, and the meet-' ing closed.
