The new rolume of Statuses passed last session, will bo issued next week. Wo have received the September number of the N.Z. Industrial Gazotte. Mr Lowther Board has declined to accept the position of Resident Magistrate in Wellington. Lieutenant A. P. Douglas, R.N., has been appointed Secretary to the Council of Military Education. The Rev. H. M. Murray will lecture, in the Presbyterian Church to-morrow evening, on Temperance. There was a slight shack of enrthquake felt here Yesterday, a few minutes after midday. There hare been added to the catalogue of Messrs F. R. Jackson and Go's sale on Thursday next, 102 head «f cattle and 400 sheep. The ballot for town sections in the Feilding Small Farm Association Block will take place in tlio Foresters' Hall on Mondaj- evening next, at 8 p.m. A banquet was given to Mr A. Drew in New Plymouth on his retiring from the captaincy of tho Firo Brigade. We understand there is some probability that Mr Drew "will Bottle on tho Manchester Block.

A contemporary says the Daily Telegraph is the cause of the trouble between tho Salvation Army and the Napier Borough Council, as that journal has over-advertised the Army.
An agency of the Manchester Fire Assurance Company has been opened in Feilding, and Mr S. J. Thompson appointed district agent. For particulars we refer our readers to the advertisement which appears elsewhere.
When Rowlands, the Gisborne murderer, was informed by the Sheriff of Napier that his sentence had been commuted and that his life would be spared, he received the information very coolly, merely saying, " Oh very well."
The Auckland Bell has inflicted a crushing defeat on the so-called unemployed in that gay city, who said they would " boycott" that journal. Real working men buy the Bell if only to show they have no connection with the " loafers."
We are glad to learn from the Auckland Star that the Government decline to accept the resignation of Mr Brewer, Land Purchase Officer at Auckland, stating thai they have no charge against him in connection with the Stark purchase.
The recent heavy rains had the effect of flooding the Makino nearly bank high. Yesterday the rush, of water was very great, cutting away the banks in its course and carrying down immense quantities of drift wood. No very serious damage has been reported.
There will be mass held in St Bridget's Roman Catholic Church to- morrow morniug at eight o'clock. The Key. J. F. Patterson will preach.. We understand that all the members of the congregation will attend in order to welcome their new pastor.
A meeting of the Horticultural Society was held last night at Mr Bray's office. Officen for the ensuing season, a Schedule Committee, and a General Committee were elected. Dates of the shows were fixed for the first Wednesdays in December and March repectively.
The Librarian of the Feilding Pubho Library, Mr Beaufort, informs us that the number of who enquire daily " have the new books come?" is surprising. He has no doubt, when the new do books arrive, there will be numerous additions to the list of subscribers. We may state for the benefit of our readers that when the volumes are ready for issue to members, we will make the fact public in our columns.
The papers of the colony are all publishing the fact that on Tuesday Mr Henry Driver, er M.H.R., underwent the operation of having a portion of hi* tongue out off. There ii nothing remarkable in that, nor is it very interesting to the general public. But if some of th« M..U.R* in esse had this attention paid to them we could understand a certain nnvtunt of jubilation.
In certain parts of Scotland farmers ugp small spades for digging out thistles and other weeds from among the grain. An old Fife farmer engaged at this occupation one daj, was accosted as follows : — " Are ye n» apt to cut a lot of corn d-iein that ?" " That depends on wha the corn belanga t;" was the answer. " If it's yer am yell no cut very tnuckle, but if it's ony ither body's yell cut a quid lot."
Yesterday as there was no morning train from Halcombe, a gentleman who desired to attend the funeral of Mr Bray's son, started to walk down, and while on his way dropped his pocket book which contained valuable papers as well as money. Fortunately another Halcombe resident also got tired of waiting and followed in the footsteps of the first, and picked up the lost pocket book which, was restored to the owner in Feilding before it had been missed.
We have pleasure in announcing that on Wednesday the 15th. inst. there will be exhibited in the Public Hall two large Dioramas ; one of Palestine, and the other of the Hot Lakes of New Zealand. The paintings are by Mr Pownall, of Wanganui, an artist of considerable power, whose artistic reputation ranks high in the artistic world at Home. Descriptive lectures will be given by a talented elocutionist. As everything connected with the vanished Pink and White Terraces is of great interest just now, we have no doubt the lectures will be well attended.
The following extract from the Wangnnui Herald of Thursday mil explain the mysterious paragraph referred to in our is«ue of the same day : — We mentioned yesterday that a meeting of the Hospital Board had been held the previous day, at which business of a nature it was not desirable to make public had been discussed. The result has been the dismissal of the custodian and matron, and this morning an information was laid by iir F. K. Jackson, Chairman of the Board, against Mr Adcock, charging him with pretending that certain goods charged to the Hospital Board had bi-en procured, including 9471bs moat 9091bs of bread, 14201 bs potatoes, 1801 bs sngar, 171bs sago, slbs coffee. 4lbi cvcoa, and 30ibi pearl barlry, and that he procured an order for £45 15* 9d in payment of the goods, of which £3 2s 5d was taken by him with intent to defraud. The case will be heard ou Monday, the 13th instant.
A meeting of the stewards of the Feilding Jockey Club was held at Hastie's Hotol last night. Present — Messrs Macarthur, Franklin, Haybittle, Kirton, Sandilands, Sherwill, Curtis, Campion, Cottrell, Morphy Fit/Herbert, and P. Bartholomew, Gosling. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The resination of Mr Franklin, as secretary, was received and accepted. The chairman said the success of last race meeting, and the present sound financial condition of tho club were entiroly owing to the energy and ability displayed by Mr Franklin. A hearty vote of thanks was accoi-d---ed to him and a second honorarum of £5 os pass<«l| in addition to tho one of £10 10s already granted. It was then arranged to advertise for application for the position of Soorelary. After transacting a quantity of private business the meet ing adjourned until Saturday, the 11th iudt., at the Denbigh Hotol,
