The Long Paddock
During the interregnum between the retirement of the old and the appointment of the new Hanger and Foundkeeper, certain owners ef horses and cattle have allowed their stock to wander unrestrained ia the streets of the Borough. The consequence of this contemptible indifference to the pockets of the ratepayers is that the ditches and water tables, which have only been made at considerable expense, have been damaged to an amount equal to the value of the miserable animals, whose owners largely depend on the feed on the " long paddock" to keep them alive. We are glad to see that the Council has re-appointed the late poundkeeper and ranger who performed in the past his unpleasant duties without fear or favor, and we have no doubt the streets will be again cleared. In the meantime the harm has been 'done, and the ratepayers will pay the piper.
