An earthquake, causing great destruction of property and loss of life, occurred at Philiatra, a town on the south-west coast of Greece, in the province of Morea. Fully three hundred persons are known to have perished. Alexandria, Augtiat 28. Several severe shocks of earthquake have been experienced in various parts of Egypt. Eome, August 28. Reports to hand from several towns in Italy state that heavy earthquake shocks were felt during yesterday. Received August 31, 1 a.m. Athens. August 30. The latest accounts regarding the earthquake at Philiatra put the loss of life at less than was originally stated. 116 bodies have been recovered and Many persons rescued from the ruins of the town, who have sustained serious injuries.
