(eeutre's telrobams.) London, August 26. It is expected tbat the Rev Mr Auaiin, of Wlntby. will succeed the Her, Mr Moorhouse as Bishop of Melbourne. . The Australian and New Zealand mails, via S&n Francisco, dated Auckland 20th July, were delivered to-day. The weekly returns of the Bank of , England, published today, show the ! total reserve in notes and t ullion to be £12,000,000, or £100,000 less than last week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities remains at 44 per cent. The shipment of oranges from Sydney and Adelaide by the Sorata has arrived in good condition, bmt the Adelaide shipment has been plundered during the voyage. Many cases of wine by the same vessel were alse plundered. Capetown, August 25. The report recently to hand that Lieut. Bethell, of the mounted police, has been murdered by Kaffirs while hunting in Bechuanaland, is now proved to be untrue, i Lieut. Bethell having arrived all well at Majetmg. '
