YOUTHFUL BLUE RIBBONITES.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir,—- I «w ia the Manawatu Daily Times of yesterday, a letter from Pater Eamilias on the above subject which" I consider very much to the point; : I consider it most objectionable f«r tiny school to allow temperance lectures to be introduced with the evident intention of persuading •children, without the sanction of their parents or guardians, into taking the pledge. m Children cannot form a right judgment of what they are feeing asked to do, and being urged by the School- , master, who may.;b« a Blue Bibbonist Mmself , in many- eases may sign their freedom away for the sake of not offending, the schoolmaster. I approve of temperance- in all things, but object very strongly to allowing children to commit themselTes in a matter which, may lead to their loss of self iespect should they be led away in after life-. A person most assuredly- deserves more praise who can refrain, from intemperance without having, signed the pledge. — I am &e n ■;■:'•■ . Pater Familias (Feildiag). Feilding, August 18.
