The rain, which has fallen almost .'-.. .uninterruptedly since Sunday, has caased the. heaviest floods knewn here . for years. The lower part of the flat is under water. It is reported that the new sewers have bunt up. All , the cellars im the city are flooded, and :. severalhouses in High Ward damaged. Railway communication is completelvsuspended. ; ■ ,- . Later. It is raining as hard as ever. Both main sew»ro in Cavenham ax» extent sively damaged. In Bend-street the water rose im several warehouses te the height of three feet. In Sargood's bond store about 450 eases of drapery and general goods are damaged. It is the heaviest rain that has fallen for 23 years. The rain has fallen almost without intermission since Friday,, causing heavy floods. The low lying lands are covered with 1 sheets ef water, and much damage has been done to lately sown grain. On sidings, potatoes have been washed out, and a large extent ef country will have to. be re-sown. Considerable mortality ameng young lambs is reported. There is no signs at present of the weather ' breaking. Latest news regarding the state ef the Taieri is to the effect that the flood is, still seme fest below that of seven years age, but the river is still rising. Thewatwisperculatingthrough embankments made by the Board of Conservators, and if there is a sudden .' , rush ef water it may sweep the house* before it; The Taieri farmers generally have removed their stock te high ground. In Palmentea and in the Waihemo Couaty the less of stock has been considerable. Muir Bras. lost 200 mostly valuable stud sheep, and Rebertson, of Bush Park, 160t\ This Day The weather is clearing, the rain ■ having ceased. The damage w& considerably exceed £10,000. It v reported that the telegraph static* at Greytown is washed away. No lives were lost, all the family managing to make their escape.
