The Manchester Rifles

The ' Manchester Bifles paraded for Government inspection by Lieutenan - Colonel Stapp, on Thursday evening Lieutenant Pleasants was in command. Thirty-fire men. including the Band, paraded. The corps was put through some smart drill for a couple of hours after which the fallowing circular was read: — Defence Office, Wellington, 27th July, 1886. It having been decided that the number of drills to qualify for capitation shall bo increased, I have the honor to inform you that by the new regulations* about to be published, garrison corps -will be required to attend eighteen drills and county corps eight drills ; but this year only fifteen drills will be required for garrison and seven for county corps respectively. I inform you at the earliest possible date in order that you may be enabled to qualify for capitation. W. E. Col. Ktapp said he might have to call them out more than this, but he was unable to state positively. Captain Macarthur, on his return from Wellington, would no doubt fee able to give his company, all necessary information on the subject of capitation. The men were then dismissed.
