The Public Worki Department hare received the following telegram from the engineer in charge of the fiotorua railway works re the supposed subsidence of Rotorua towmhip : — " I have ohecked the levels of a section from the bush to the terminus. These were level before the eruption. I now find them unchanged nnd am able to positively assert that neither an upheaval nor anj subsidence has taken place.
