The Railway Debentures Scandal
It is evident that the above unpleassant affair is not to be allowed to ''fizzle out" as we expected, for we learn by th© Parliamentary reports that Sir George Grey gave notice to ask the Premier whether he would cause proceedings to be taken in reference to the offer of agency fees to members or a member of the House, if they would effect a sale of Waimate Railway debentures on favorable terms. That a reply in the negative will be given by Sir Robert Stout. we bave very little doubt, because ho
has already shown he is of opinion no more is necessary to be done. [Since the above was in typo the question was put in the House last night, and led to a lengthy debate, which at times was exceedingly acrimonious. Sir J. Yogel made a lengthy explanation, and warmly condemned the Committee's Report, which he described as vindictive. The leading members of the House took part in the debate, including Major Atkinson, who said he had carefully read the evidence, and approved the Committee's Report. Sir George Grey's second question dealing with this subject was not put, but it will probably come on for discussion on Monday.]
