At the Supreme Court this morning Cornelius Toll was convicted of a robbery of 30s shillings frem a hotel and against whom previous convictions were continu* ally being recorded ' ■nice 1873, was sentenced to 10 years with hard labor P. S. Dodd for forgery received 12 months with hard labor. Kaikouea, This Day. Connor' 8 Temperance Hotel was burnt down early this morning. About £30 worth was saved. The inmates saved littie or nothing. The premises and contents were insured for £600 in the New Zealand office. Fortunately there was no wind or Maxton's new store would hare gone. As it was, it was only saved by the most strenuous exertions, the building being slightly damaged. Rotobua, July 12.
■ A severe shock of earthquake took place at 430 on Saturday afternoon. The volcanoes were discharging large volumes of steam and smoke all day. Judging from the direction, a fresh one appeared to have broken out near the Paeroa Range*, but no report has be<«n received. A party of four tourists h-ive just arrived, and intend to make a thorough exploring tour and proceed ta Wellington overland.
