A- despatch from Martinaville, Va., May 17, says:— No greater tragedy lias occurred in. Virginia m a decade thau-that which occurred in this town at date. Saturday night proceeding, an anonymous circular was issued and posted all' over the place, seriously reflecting on W. K. The printer told them that it was Colouol P. D: Spencer, a member of the Town. Board, and a leadingimidness man: The same evening soon 'after the tbbauoo factories hud <3o«ed for thti'lday, and the streots were filled with operatives returning from their work, the Torry Brothers then started in the directiuu of Spen<jer 7 B fafctory. When half way, thoy were t»et by Suentter, with his brother and Weral friends. W. K. Terry addrewed' a iew words to Spem-or. -who told him not to shoot. Just then • «ome one fired a pistol, aud forty shots followed. When a summing up was made, W. K. Terry was found shot in the spine, Juke Terry through the. seek, Spencer in the hip, Tarlton Brown (his business partner) in the groin ; . R. L. Jones, a saloon keeper ; It. L. Gregory hotel clerk ; Sandy Martin, coloured mechanic. The last three were seriously wounded by stray balls. : All the Terrys and Brown are dead. The Terrys belonged to an old iamily, and occupied a high social poaitfrnl '
