A Butter Box
Mr Mofflin on Wednesday took; out a patent for an improved butter-box. Its great recommendation is its simplicity of construction, and consequent cheapness. The sides are fonnejd of four pieces of board, which are smaller at one end than the other, so as to allow, of three square iron hoops .to be driven over them to keep them ia place. The corners are made watertight by- a tongue on the edge of one board fitting into a groove on the side of the other. The bottom piece is secured in the same, manner as in an ordinary cask, each side board having a groove, and the edge of the square bottom' piece being thinned to fit in. The top, ■which is the small end of the box, has a sliding cover, a square piece of wood fitting into grooves as with, the bottom, but one of the sides being cut short to allow the top to be run over it. "When this top is pushed home a couple of screws fix it to the short side, and the contrivance is quite watertight. The inside of the box is coated with a waterproof, enamel. Several large butter-dealers have decided to give Mr Mofflin's invention a trial, and are hopeful of it being the very thing that is wanted. — Taranaki Budget.
