I In consequence of a recent decision by the Resident Magistrate in Wellington, on a point raised in a case | a defendant was charged with , 'shooting imported game without a j license, and where he escaped the consequences of his act by a. flaw in the Act, the Hon. Mr Buckley has introduced the following Amendment | I Act into the Legislative Council, the second clause of which provides that j "All game, as the same is defined by the said Act (Animals Protection Act, 1880)-, at large, within any district proclaimed thereunder, shall be deemed to be '. imported' game, and it shall not be necessary in any proceedings under the said Act to prove the fact of importation into any particular "district." Any person, therefofe,' who ; hav;e: been taking advantage— very jmoanly, we think; — of the beforenamed' decision" to kill imported game without first contributing towards the. Expenses incurred; by the local Acbli-' matisation Societies, \>y paying fees for licenses, will do well to abandon .tlie7;practice if they desire to avoid unpleasant exposure, and the expense will surely follow the legal proceedings which will be instituted against them.
