A shocking fatality occurred here this morning, by which Joseph McWilLiams, aged 22, lost his life. Deceased, who is a brother-in-law of Mr JL A. Fantham, had been sinking a well on the farm of the latter, and this morning was lowered without being tied. He let go his hold before reaching the bottom, having been overpowered hy gas. Strenuous efforts have been made for several hours to reach the body, but with no avail.' There is a seam of lignite at the bottom of the well, which is 80ft deep. Thoro were ne previous indications of Any danger.
