A meeting of the members of the Australian M utual Provident Society was held last night, when the proposal of the board fo open a branch in London was condemnded by one hundred and twenty voles to eight.
The Woolgrowers' Association are Husily making out a scheme for estab* hshing woolen factories in China and Japan.
Sydney, June 4.
It is announced that it is also intended to prosecute the captain of the Ly-ee* moon for manslaughter. Up to the present time eleven bodies have been recovered from the wreck. The steamer bringing the survivors is expected to reach Sydney to-day. The Committee of the Legislative Asembly has adopted a resolution affirming in principle the desirability of introducing a land tax. The San Francisco mail contract has been adopted.
Several large steamers have been laid on for Kimberley. Lord Carington visited the Victoria yesterday, previous to her departure, and inspected all the arrangements. A large number of persons are leaving from here fer the new goldfield. A fire took place at Leiehsrdt on Monday night, by whioh a fireman named Fisher was killed and several others injured by falls of walls.
