To«day the London Gazette contains the announcement of the Birthday honours. The Hon. Hobert Stout, Premier of New Zealand, is created Knight Commander of the Order, of St. Michael and Sfc George. Mr C, H. Symonds, Commissioner of Audit for Victoria, is created a Companion of the same order. The Hon. James Mcßain, President of Legislative Council, Victoria, Justice Moles worth, Victoria, and Justice Dob* son, Tasmania, are created Knights Bachelors.
Sir John Coode has been created a Knight Commander of St. Michael and St. George for the services rendered by him in connection with colonial harbors. Messrs B. C. Baker and J. C. Syiuons, of South Australia, hare been created Companions of the same order, and Mr W.- C. Dobson, formerly Attorney-Gene-ral of Tasmania, has been created a Knight Bachelor. ' .
At the Colonial Institute's conference of Exhibition officiate, Mr LabilUsare read a paper on Federation. . Sir Alexander Stuart declared that the colonies would not permit interference with their par-, ticvlar fiscal polioies. Eaeh> -ought to have liberty to raise reTenue as it liked.
In the Chamber of Deputies, M. Basey has proposed that the property of the Orleanist Princes be confiscated to the Government.
May 30. It is announced that, with the permission, of Her Majesty the Queen, a garden party will be giren by Her Royal Highness Princess Louise, at Kensington Palace on the 4th of June. The principal guests on, the occasion will be the l^xe* cutive Commissioners of the Exhibition, and various colonists of note.
