Melbourne, May 13. It ia understood tkat the Victorian Government are willing to alio- non* contributing colonies to share in the, benefit of the redaction of Press rates to 2s 8d per word, which will probably come into force on the Ist of July next. .<" * ;; ' . May 14. A movement has been set on foot witb a view of giving a public reception to Mr Murray - Smith pn his return to the colony. Sir Andrew Clarke telegraphs te the Government that the prospects for a satisfactory settlement of the New Hebrides question are very encouraging. -Symcby, May 13. In the Legislative Assembly to-day, the contract for the San Francisco mail service came up for consideration. The motion that the contract entered rntb be approved was adjourned until Tuesday next. Mr Clarke has given notice of his intention to move a vote of censure upon MrDibbs for expending a sum of £600 for publishing the " Australian Portrait Gallery." Adelaide, May 14. The South Australian Government has replied to Mr John Pender's communication regarding the reduction of cible rates in the same term* as'to^the Vic-~ toriaa.
