Redistribution of Seats
0 Ik an article on the census and representation the Post says : — " The growth of population in the Manawatu district, including the counties of Oroua, Horowhenua, and Manawatu, has also been very marked within the hut five years, and now fairly entitles that portion of the Wellington district to additional representation. When the whole subject comes under, review, and the complete census returns for the colony are available, we fully expect to find that instead of 36 members for the North Island and 55 for the Middle Island, it will be found that if the 91 members are allotted in proportion to population, the North Island is equitably entitled to fully 40 members to the Middle Island's 51. The utter will, however, fight vigorously against surrendering any portion of its present representation, however excessive, and it will do this despite all the fine promises made when the hut Redistribution Bill was before the House, and the South secured its present preponderance.
