The Fielding Star. SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 1886. State Schools
To-day we publish a very foioible letter over the signature of "Parent," on the subject of lax attendance of scholars at the State Schools. There can be no two opinions that it is a shame and disgrace so much public money should be wasted in providing teaching power which is not utilised up to its extreme limits. We think our correspondent hits the blot when he says " Committees do not like to prosecute their neighbors, and secondly, very often the (members of) committees show a bad example themselves. " As the meetings of householders will be held next Wednesday for the election of school committees for the ensuing year, we hope the points mentioned by " Parent" will be borne in mind, and pledges exacted from candidates that they will support each other in the rigid enforcement of the compulsory clauses of the Education Act, while they are in office.
