The American Wool Duties
Mr Stout cabled to the Premier of New South Wales a few days since that it appeared the question of reducing the duty on wool wai again brfore thej United States Congress. He suggested that the Australasian colonies should jointly ask the Secretary of State to represent to the United States Government that these olontes so allied to them by descent from the same race, woald regard the re« m^val of the duty from Australasian wool as an act of great friendship and consideration. The Premier of New South wales accepted the proposal on his own behalf, and said he would communicate with the Governments of the other colonies. Sir Julius Yogel has also urtred the mail contractors, Spreckles Bros, and Mr Center, to bring all their influence to bear. Mr Slout in his telesjruni expressly advised that in the representation sought to be m.-ide to the United States there should be no mention of retaliation or anything in the nature of a threat. He wished to rely solely on the good feeling of our traus-atlaatio cousins. — fost.
