Stewart, Mayer of Melbourne. Resolutions protesting against the French annexation of tho New Hebrides were unanimously adopted. Adelaide, April 19. Messageries Maritime! Oceania arrived this afternoon with English mails March Bth. SroNBT, April 18. It is proposed to pay members «f the Legislative Asuembly £300 per annum, and a sum will be placed on the Estimates for that object. A fatal accident occurred at the Hawkesbury race meeting yesterday, when a jockey was thrown from his horse and killed. The six days' walking match terminated at midnight yesterday. Scott was the winner, completing 424 miles to Edwards' 406. April 19. Nelson has arrived in good condition, and is second favourite for the Sydney Gold Cup. . Melboubnb, April 17. Mr Hayter, Government statist, in his agricultural statistics of the colony of Victoria, for the past season, gives the wheat yield as averaging 8.99 bushels to the aore. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company in their gram circular just issued adopt this basin and estimate that after allowing for the wants of the colony. 29,000 tons will be available for export. The demand for New South Wales and Queensland, will however, completlr absorb the surplus, hence they anticipate a gradual rise in prices. The Chtmboraze has arrived here from Adelaide. She has been placed in quarantine for fourteea days on account of a" case of small-pox which oocurred during the voyage to Australia. The disease has not spread beyond one patient who was landed at Adelaide. The ship's doctor reports all other passengers in good health.
