Halcombe and Sherwill's Stock Report
On the Bth inst. we held alargesaleof stock here, yarding 510 head of cattle, 3000 sheep, besides pigs and horses. We were disappointed in a large quantity of stock not coining forward as advertised, owing to the extremely heavy rain that fell the day previous to the sale preventing people mustering and drafting their stock. The attendance was large, but the bidding for all descriptions of stock was not so brisk as last month. We quitted the greater portion of the cattle, but we i could not place the Napier sheep with the exception of a few hundred, the reserve being higher than purchasers cared to give. We quote prices as under :— Beef (fair) bullocks, £5 ss ; beef, cows, £3 15s to £4 ss; 18-mon. steers £2 10s to £2 14s; 2-yr old heifers, £1 15s; 3-yr old bullocks, £3 15s to £4 lls; 2-yr old speyed heifers, £2 6s; yearling speyed heifers £1 10s; 2£-yr old heifers, £2 7s 6d ; yearlings mixed, £1 5s to £1 17s ; weaners* -heifers, 18s ; store cows, £2 Is to £2 ss . weaners mixed, £1 2s to £1 ss ; 2syr steers, £3 7s 6d; dairy cows, £3 10s to £4; woolly lambs, ss; ewes and wethers (stores, mixed), 5s 8d ; breeding ewes, 5s to 6s; 2-to»th wethers 5s 8d to 6s lid; pigs, 6s 8d to 9s.
