A Swell Cad

The Manchester Examiner tells i story which throws valuable light oi the thinness of aristocratic skins. A correspondent of the paper enquirec whether Earl de Grey was the son o; the Marquis of Eipon. In a subsequent issue the answer was given " Earl de Grey is the son of the Marquis of Eipon. It is only a courtesj title. In point of law he is plain Mi Eobinson." A day or two later th< following thunderbolt fell at the office of the Examiner : — " From the Marquis of Eipon, Studley Eoyal, Eipon Lord Eipon does not wish the Manchester Examiner sent any more. — J B. Sage." Eobinson is, no doubt, vulgar, and it must be particularly harrowing to a Marquis to be reminded that he stands in the same category with Brown and Jones. Bui after all it might be worse. Lord Eipon should bear the family affliction with more fortitude.
