A Model City Council
This is the way a recent meeting of ! the Nelson City Council was closed according to the report of the pro* ceedings published in the Nelson Evening Mail :— "Cr Eowell here interpolated a number of questions, and made use of some highly objectionable language, but was ordered again to sit down. •Some further remarks were being made by Cr Crewdson, when Cr Bowell rose and became so noisy and offensive, that the meeting broke up amid a stream of the coarsest abuse from the offending Councillor. Amid the volley of oaths which he was roaring forth, the Chairman's voice was heard saying that it was much to be regretted that the meeting should come to so sudden a conclusion, as there was important business remaining to be dealt with."
