A Bankrupt Publican in Trouble
(PKB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wrli-ingtoh, March 22. At a meeting of the creditors of Jas. Smith, the late landlord of the Post Office Hotel, it wni said the debts tnouetod to £600. Mr Riley complained that after he took possession of the hotel Smith removed about L3OO worth of silver, liquor, etc,, from the place. The Official Assignee reported that there were a number of bills in the National Bank, and he had given notice to the manager that they wore claimed on behalf of the creditors Thtre was a draft on London for LSOO, and if the creditors would sire him (Official Assignee) authority to stop acceptince of the draft which was issued by Messrs Levin and Co., he would cable Home to prevent payment. Mrs Smith had a cheque for LSOO, and it was for the creditors to say whether anything should be done w ith regard to that. The Official Assignee stated that Smith must have taken LSOO to Great Britain. Mr Riley said h» had the best authoritj for stating that Smith must have taken away L4OOO or LSOOO. At the suggestion of the Official Assignee it was decided to adjourn the moating until this day week. The Official Assignee promised to despatoh a cablegram to England at once stopping acceptance of the draft for LSOO.
