♦ BEUTKB's TKLEGB-MS.I Received March 4, 0 45 a.m. Sydney, March 3. Fifty-five horses were entered to-night for the Sydney Cup, the principal event of the Australian Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting. Adelaide, March 2. Crooks, late manager of the Commercial Bank of South Australia, was bronght before the Magistrates to-day on the charge of having falsified the accounts of the bank. He pleaded guilty to certain irregularities, but not to the actual charge brought against him. He was finally committed for trial, bail not being asked for. March 3. The Associated Banks bave finally declined to take up the note issue of the Commercial Bank of South Australia. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court for the compulsory winding up of the affairs of the bank. Hobabt, March 3. The Premier, the Hon. Adye Douglas has tendered his resignation to His Excellency the Governor, who, it is understood, has summoned the lion. Dr. Agnew, M.L.C. Melbourne, March 3. Betting on the Australian Cup runs as follows :— lsraelite, 4 to 1; Sandal, 5 to 1 ; Malua 10 to 1. Matchlock is a firm favourite for the Champion Stakes at 2 to 1.
