♦ (beuteb's telegrams.) London, February 19. An influential deputation waited on Earl Granville to-day with reference to alleviating the present distress among the unemployed by means of emigration. Lord Granville, replying to the representations of the deputation, stated that he |was in favor of Stateaided emigration of workmen to the British colonies, and added that he hoped for the creation of an official emigration department. February 21. Mr John Morley, the newly-ap-pointed Chief Secretary of Ireland, will not permit the military evictions of Irish tenants. Mr Leonard Courtney has been appointed Chairman of Committees in the House of Commons. An influential deputation ha» waited on the Home Government, urging that a permanent loan be floated for the purpose of encouraging State emigration — emigrants repaying the money advanced by easy instalments.
