It is said that before the police arrived on the course they had fleeced the public of about £160. Blenheim, February 8. Patrick O'Sullivan, landlord of tho Springlnnd Hotel, was charged at the EM. Court with stabbing John O'SulKvan, landlord of the South Star Hotel. Aocused was remanded, the wounded mnn being too ill to appear. He received a severe cut extending from the lobo of the ear four inches towards the spine, Dunedin, February 8. Samual Haworth, a son of Robert Haworth, was driving near t.'averskam on Saturday afternoon, when bis horse was frightened by a kite falling on its head. The animal bolted, and the occupants of the buggy were thrown ont, Haworth receiving injuries from which he died in a few hours. A laborer named Thomas Dunn, while discharging coal from the Wakalipu, fell into the hold. His spine was found to be injured and slight hopes are entertained of his recovery. At the inquest on Haworth a verdict was returned that deceased met his death accidentally. Attention was drawn to the fact that the deceased had bean fully half an hour in the hospital before he was attended to, Dr Roberts, the house surgeon, being absent. As it was shown that the heart was ruptured and delay had not accelerated death, the matter was not gone into. At the inquest the house surgeon was said to have been absent at a tennis party. Woodville, This Day. Last night a fire brigade was formed here, and officers elected. Steps are being taken to obtain plant. Timajbu. February 8. A little boy named Cornelius Conn was drowned in Stoney Creek, near Waiviate, yesterday while bathing. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. Auckland, February 8. At the inquest on the body *f Dr Huxtable a verdict of found dead was returned. The evidence tended to show that death was caused by an overdose of chloroform administered by deceased for the purpose of procuring sleep. [FKOM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT. J Bulls, This Day.
