Feilding Borough Council • An ordinary meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening last. Present — The Mayor and Crs Eade, Bishop, ) Fowles, Worsfold, and P. Thomson. ,j -The' newly-elected Councillor, Mr T. W. K. Foster, made the prescribed - declaration and took his seat at the table. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. Messrs P.. & J. Thomson, Worsfold and Fowtes were appointed to consider and report u£>on the same.. < 'a A letter received from Mr Luke Ward at the last meeting, re compensation for loss on certain work was next considered, after which it was agreed to leave the matter for further discussion at the next meeting of the Council. ' ■ Cr Worsfold called, attention to bylaw No. 6, which forbids lighting a fire in the Borough except in a properly constructed fireplace, and asked why such by-law 'was ' n6t being enforced, seeing that' it was being continually violated. He submitted it was the duty of the Town Clerk, to. see that the law was enforced, but if not he thought some one should be appointed' to '■ look after the matter, as it was ; becoming a' serious affair. .-\. Several Councillors were of opinion 1 that it was the duty of the constable to look after this business, and ultimately it was understood that the Mayor would call that officer's attention to the matter. Tenders for works were then opened as follows : — Derby street contract— T. Smith £Bf, a. Clarke £108 'ss, J. Belfit :£M. 18 9d, J. Aitken £79 $s, Andrew Laing £99 8s 6d. Beattie street contract — Meehan and Lynch £43 16b, T. A. Price £S6 4s 4d, G. Clarke £53 Bs,; J. Aitken £46 Bs, Andrew Laing £52 3s. J. Cummings £1 14s per chain, G-. Clarke £1 13s 6d per chain, J. Belfit £l 9s 6d per chain, T. Smith £36 15s the whole work. Andrew Laing £31 4s 9s. , • ;r . The tenders of J. Aitken for Dejrbjjr street, of Meehan and LjnciE lor Beattie street, and of J. Belfit for Railway line were accepted. The tender of T. A. Price was declared informal, and the tenderer being present withdrew it. Tendersfor carting were then opened as follows :— J. Belfit 1 horse team lls 6d per day, 2 horse toain 16s 6d per clay. : Supply of metal— J. Belfit Is lid per cubic yard. The tenders of J. Belfit were accepted. Tenders for the supply of stationery for tho year 1886 from Messrs W. Carthew and W. Reading were then opened, and it was resolved, That the tenders be referred to the Finance Committee to report at the next meeting of the Council. Re a petition previously received from Messrs Hubner, Rink and others with reference to the formation of a road fronting - : their properties, ft was resolved, That the petitioners be informed that the work w«nld be undertaken as soon as funds are available. The matter of the erection of a bridge over the Makino in Derby street was. called attention to by Cr Worsfold, and after a { brief conversation it was agreed to leave the further discussion of the matter to a fuller meeting of the Council, previous to which an inspectien would be made. The Council then adjourned.
