The La Monte furnace has temporarily suspended operations, aftor a run of rather more than two days, owing to tho exhaustion of the supply of iron used for fluxing purposes. An interim clearing up has taken place, and has resulted in a return of 16 ozs of bullion, of which about one- third is gold worth £4 per oz, the remainder being silver. It is estimated that a similar quantity of bullion has still to bo separated from the alloy of lead. About 29 tons purchased from the various mines in (ho Thames and Ohinemuri districts were reduoed and the result is considered satisfactory. Tho fire at tho Now Zealand Ironworks was extinguished by the timely use of tho Harden Star Hand Grenade. Tho Bailaiag was insured ia tha New Zealand for £1000. Wbluvotok.
