On our third page to-day we publish a notification fiom the Commissioner of Crown Lands in which small grazing runs in the "Wanganui district are advertised to be leased. The leases will be submitted to public auction at the Masonic Hall, Wanganui, on January 12, 1886, at the upset rates per acre opposite each block. The Minester of Lands, the Hon. John Ballance, is making a determined effort to settle men of small means on lands suitable for them. The conditions of the leases requiring certain improvement to be done during their currency of the first six years will be a guarantee to the Government that the lands will be held by bonajide settlers only. The communication by road to Wanganui is very fair, an<j as the years roll on will become better by the property through which they pass increaseing in value, and thus finding revenue for the Road Boards. Judging from the success which is attending the Small Farm Associations in this part of the district we have no hesitation in saying that within five years there will be settled on what is now waste land, a numerous and prosperous class of yeomanry who will remember 'with feelings of deep thankfulness the foresight of the Hon.
