Balmerston Friendly Society's Sports
On New Year's Day the Friendly Society's of Palmerston will hold their Annual sports in the paddock of Mr Linton at Terrace End. The prizes to he competed for amount to noarly sixty pounds. We hope that the various Lodges and Courts of those rery excellent bodies in Feilding will loyally support their bretliern and neighbors in Palmerston, by a large attendance. The train arrangements ior that day are admirable, as they will enable Feilding folks to be early , on the ground and to be home in good tjm.e in the evening. The Foresters, Odd Fellows, Druids, Hibernians, and flhepherds in full regalia, will form in procession at the Foresters' Hall, Palinerstou, at 10 a.m. and march to the sports ground, headed by the Town Band. Among other items in the programme are lawn tennis, quoits, archery, skittles, Aunt Sally, and swing. Not the least interesting or exciting event will be the baby show where we expect to see that a Feilding production will take the special prize or run all the other competitors very close. The only -thing needed will be fine weather, and on that point we think everybody may rest easy, as the season promises to be propitious in that respect.
