London, December 17 The Standard in an article on the political outlook to-day affirms that Mr Gladstone it prepaied to restore the Irish Parliam«nt, but at the same tune pre« serving the union with Great Britain. Mr Gladstone annoances that the remarks in yesterday's Standard attributing to him willingness to re-establsh an Irish Parliament are inaccurate. Colonel Stanley, Secretary of State for the Colonies, held another conference with the Agents-General to-day on the Now Guinea affairs. No definite decision was arrived at. and the asseting adjourned till monday next. The Government of New South Waits is supporting the appointment of Mr J. Douglas as High Commissioner for New Guinea. The Agents-General meet Colonial Stanley on Thursday to cobs sider Peter Seratehley. A Bill has been introduced into the American Senate having for its object the suspension of surer coinage in America. Hopes are entertained that Messrs Symes and Co., weolbrokers, will be able to arrange their affairs with their creditors without resorting to the Bankruptcy Court.
The New steamer Bengal, built for the P. and O. Company, has mads her trial trip, when a speed ef 15 knots iras attained.
