'■ Again the writer paused and sniffed. .Then he rubbed his trousers. - "Quare !'.' lie muttered, "mighty quare S Be me sowl, I'd hare sworn I smelt fire ! It must hare been me fome imagination. Ah; Jerry, ma boy, ye're an itliseant gorsoon, Sachsanagh immege hefieruun !" After which introspect the pen continued : " Let fire and famine " This tim* it was v decided snort that burst from Ros.«a, nnd he clapped both hands over his trousers, and executed a gotd imitation of he second figure in the Highland fling. Under his chair was the waste basket in flames, and from it a cloud of smote arose. In a« instant Kossa leaped into the air. His two feet were brought close together and descended with a crash upon the basket and its contents. Then he seized the burning paper and carried it to the outer office, where the gloomy Joyce wrestles with the British lion every day.
