Feilding Gold Mining Association
A meeting of the above association was held at Hastie's hotel last evening, Mr H. L. Sherwill occupying the chair. There were present— Messrs Staite (secretary), E. Goodbehere (treasurer), D. E. Amesbury, P. Bartholomew, Brandt, Blackmore, Gichard, -Morphy, P. Thomson; E. J. Cottrell. <££h_rti_, B. Gosling, A. K. Curtis, Beaufort, L. Clapham, and J. Bartholomew. The minutes of a previous general meeting (also a comunttM'meeßr^) were read and confirmed. Correspondence — Several letieriT from Crown Lands office were read, deeding with the issiie of prospe^iig; licenses, &o. '-- - -.< lI a- - ."^ A report from the two prospectors --l sent out .(Messrs Curtis and . Logan) was read. The report was of 'an unfavorable character, 1 the prospectors having a poor opinion of the Pohangina reefs. The report also stated tna. neither the prospectors nor any of the others who' were oh the ground during their stay had found gold. .Messrs Curtis and Logan, during their visit to, the reefs* had pegged off a claim, a plan of which was submitted to the meeting. ;•■ x-A.-u T_fe-_ecretary read a balance-sheet, which showed a small deficiency, to meet which Mr SherwiUj>rbposed, and Mr Gosling .ecohded, That a call. of one shilling 1 " jjer 'member Ij^ iuade, which wai carried. Bartholoihe^ read a letter he , had received, from Mr Forbes, jeweller^ bf Wanganui, giving the result p?^ test he had made of a piece of Pohan-_ gina quartz Mr Bartholomew: sent him -for essay. The result was satis^i factory, Mr Bartholomew ' laying on? the table several small nuggets : of gold and' silver obtained from the test.; Mr Forbes, in his letter, stated that the amount of quartz hie -u^C-t^hed^-for Mr Bartholomew j was 4 ounces, and the yield wasat the rate of 7f ounces to, the ton. The nuggets proved a subject of much interest and ourioeity. : A A long discussion followed as to the desirableness of continuing the Association and retaining the claim pegged put by the prospectors.
