The Circus

On Thursday and Friday evenings Messrs Stoodley and Sharman'e Grand International Circus performed in Feilding. On Thursday night the attendance was remarkably good, but on Friday night the drizzling rain kept a great number of people at home who would have otherwise turned out to the show. Every circus has the same salient points, and it is seldom that the regular visitor discovers either originality or even novelty in them. But in this case there is a departure from the general rule. Most of the circus bands are good — that of the Grand International is wretchedly poor. On the other hand the performances are all up to the mark, especially our old friend, the Japanese, whose appearance is always hailed with delight. The performance on the slack wire was very good, and we noticed .that whatever this "athlete undertook he did remarkably well. "Ginger" received warm applause and the verdict pronounced on him was that he was "plucky and good." The ladies were exceptionally good, their feats on horseback being performed with grace and courage. ?The Salamander Horse must be seen to be appreciated. It is marvellous to witness the steadiness of the .Horse 1 and its rider when environed around and; above with a blaze of brilliant and noisey fireworks.
