Feilding Star. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1885. Feilding Post & Telegraph Office
We gather the following information, anent the Feilding Post and Telegraph Office, from the report of the Post-master-General. The year referred to ended on 31st March last: — Money orders issued, 1169; commission, £51 16s; amonnt, £3412 3s lid. Money orders paid, 668 ; amount, £1902 16s Bd. Savings Banks — New accounts opened, 87 ; number of deposits, 518 5 amount, £2610 9s lOd ; accounts closed, 53 ; deposits withdrawn, 187; amount, £2560 15s 7d. Total revenue from private and Press messages, £324 7s lid; Government messages, £41 7s 2d ; total, £365 15s Id. Number of private and Press messages, 5184; Government messages, 735; total 5919. Amount paid for salaries and contingencies, £175 17s 9d. The amount of.'jrevenue from the sale of stamps, &c, is not given separately, nor have we any means of arriving at even an approximate estimate thereof. But we may gather from the figures given above that the Feilding office contributes largely to the income of the colony at a very small expense.
