Brutal Assault on a Servant Girl

♦ (per united press .association.}. Welmngtox. October 14. At the R.M. Court, William Jenkins and his wife were charged with having assaulted a girl named Louisa Corner. The girl was of a weak mind and was servant with Jenkins. Medical evidence showed that the girl, who was about 19 years of age, was suffering from bruises on the shoulder* and back, extensive bruises on the fore and upper arm. also on both hipa and right buttock, the lower part of the spine, and on the bridge of the nose. The evidence for the defence v was a total denial of the assault, and** th-»t the bruises were accidental. Mr Jenkins was discharged, but the magistrate held his wife responsible for some of the bruises and fined her 20s and 30s costs.
