Singular Passion
The Magistrates at Bandon, in the South of Ireland, have committed for trial a groom named Hodnett on the charge of unlawfully taking away a young lady ' named Long against the will of her mother. The young lady is the daughter by. a former marriage of Mrs McCarthy, wife of Dr McCarthy, who employed the prisoner as 'groom. on July 23 the accused and the young lady disappeared. Prisoner subsequently returned for his wages, and in reply to questions stated that the young lady had gone to London and lie was going after |her that evening. Theyounglady was afterwards brought home by tier brother, but she again escaped with the accused and was found in his father's house. The prisoner stated that it was the young lady who was the wooer, that she had gone to his room and asked him to kiss her, and he could not see why he should be prosecuted because a young lady fell in love with him. She is rather good looking, while the groom is unprepossessing and partially blind.
