Feilding Sports
THE COMHTTEE JEEETINO.
A meeting of the committee of the Feilding Boxing Day Sports was held at Mr Bray's office on Saturday at 7 p,m. Only formal business was transacted.
THE 3TOBMC MEETING. At eight o'clock the attendance in the Hall was very meagre owing to the tempestuous character of the weather, but later on the seats in the front part of the Hall were pretty well occupied. ; ■ On the motion of Mr Worsfold
which was seconded by Mr Sandilands,
Mr Bray was voted -to the chair. In brief sentences lie explained the object of the meeting. The secretary read the minutes of the last annnal meeting, which were duly confirmed. He also read the balance'sheet which was adopted. Mr H. Worsfold said the society j was to be congratulated on its success and spoke in complimentary terms of the retiring officers. The chairman then called on the meeting to elect a working committee and stewards for the ensuing Boxing Day Sports. Mr Worsfold proposed, seconded by Mr Daw and carried, That the following gentlemen form the werking committee :— Messrs Lethbridge, Sherwill, Worsfold, Downes, Macarthur, Wm. Bailey, Sandilands, Reid, Evans, C. Bray, aad Rutherford. Proposed by Mr Worsfold, seconded by Mr Gosling and carried, That the following gentlemen be appointed stewards:— Messrs P. Bartholomew, JSlrton, P. Thomson, X Bartholomew, Haybitfle, Bilderbeck, Curtis, Daw, CUpham, Walter Bailey, Gosling, D. Younger, A. Laing, Aitken, Roche, and Knox. Mr Sandilands in proposing that Mr Edmund Goodbehere be appointed secretary, cemplimented that gentleman on the ability he displayed in the execution of the onerous duties of the position. Mr Kirton seconded the motion and said that Mr Goodbehere was most painstaking and obliging, giving satisfaction to the committee, while being invariably obliging and courteous to the public. Mr Worsfold spoke to the motion, and remarked that the success of the society might in a great measure be attributed to Mr Goodbehere. As it now stood the institution of the FeiltlBoxing Day Sports had no equal in the colony. An energetic secretary who knew his work and did it was the backbone of a society of the kind.
The motion was then put and carried with applause. Mr Goodbehere briefly responded and thanked the meeting for the conreposed in him.
Mr Ralph FitzHerbert was re-elec-ted treasurer.
The chairman and other gentlemen spoke in high terms of the manner in which Mr FitzHerbert had carried out his duties.
A subscription list was then opened and about £20 was put down.
The working committee will meet at an early date to draw up the programme. - The proceedings terminated with a vote ot thanks to the chairman.
